Ein Vöglein sang die ganze Nacht.
Was sang es denn? Gieb Acht, gieb Acht:
"Dort in dem stillen Kämmerlein
Da schläft das schönste Jungfräulein,
Und was es träumt im Mondenlicht --
Das sag' ich nicht! Das sag' ich nicht!"

Ein Vöglein sang die ganze Nacht.
Der junge Knab' davon erwacht.
Er pocht wol an ihr Fensterlein:
"Du Liebe, Schöne, laß mich ein!"
Und was sie thut, und was sie spricht --
Das sag' ich nicht! Das sag' ich nicht!

Ein Vöglein sang die ganze Nacht.
Da ist auch dieses Lied gemacht.
Und wär' ich in der Nacht allein,
Und klopft es an mein Fensterlein,
Und ob ich aufthät' oder nicht --
Das sag' ich nicht! Das sag' ich nicht!

Die ist jetzt schon begraben,
Der Baum noch vor der Türe blieb,
Wo wir gesessen haben.

Stets muß ich nach dem Hause sehn

Und wollt' ich auch hinuntergehn,
Ich stürb' dort so alleine!
