Kommt feins Liebchen heut?
Abends sink' ich hin und klage:
Aus blieb sie auch heut.
 
In der Nacht mit meinem Kummer
lieg' ich schlaflos, [wach]¹;
träumend, wie im halben Schlummer,
träumend wandle ich bei Tag.

Ging ein Mägdlein Blumen brechen
früh am Tage;
hörte sie die Blumen sprechen
früh am Tage:
„Tränen schuf uns deine Rauhe
früh am Tage!
Hüte nun dein Äuglein blaue,
früh am Tage,
dass es dir nicht auch noch taue
früh am Tage!“

Ging ein Jäger Rehe jagen
früh am Tage;
hörte er die Rehe sagen
früh am Tage:
„Schmerz uns schufen deine Hunde
früh am Tage!
Hüt' dein Herzlein nun gesunde
früh am Tage,
dass es dir nicht auch noch wunde
früh am Tage!“

Mägdlein auf der grünen Halde
früh am Tage,
Jäger in dem grünen Walde
früh am Tage,
haben sich in Lieb' ergötzet
früh am Tage!
War des Mägdleins Aug' benetzet
früh am Tage,
war des Jägers Herz verletzet
früh am Tage!

Ich ging im Walde
So für mich hin,
Und Nichts zu suchen,
Das war mein Sinn.

Im Schatten sah ich
Ein Blümchen stehn,
Wie Sterne leuchtend,
Wie Äuglein schön.

Ich wollt' es brechen,
Da sagt' es fein:
"Soll ich zum Welken
Gebrochen sein?"

Ich grub's mit allen
Den Würzlein aus,
Zum Garten trug ich's
Am hübschen Haus.

Und pflanzt' es wieder
Am stillen Ort;
Nun zweigt es immer
Und blüht so fort.

Grüße den Himmel mit Lust!
Werden sich bange Gefühle
Im Unermeßlichen regen?
Athme den Feind aus der Brust!
