Frühmorgens im Nebel steigt der Jäger auf die Höh',
und i schau ihm halt nach, bis i ihn gar nit mehr seh'.
I hör' ihn noch jodeln in die Waldung hinein;
wie gern möcht' i all'weil sein Spitzhunderl sein.
Er herzt ja sein Hunderl, i weiß, dass er's liebt,
und der Jäger ist fern, und mein Herz ist betrübt.

Weit an en andre Ort;
Und i sitz' do in Traurigkeit,
Es isch a böse, schwere Zeit.

Groß' Kälte ausstahn,

Ach Elselein, liebes Elselein mein,
Wie gern wär ich bei dir;
So sind zwei tiefe Wasser,
Wohl zwischen dir und mir.

Willt du dich lassen abwenden drum,
Weil sind der Wasser zwei,
Da doch sonst mancher stolzer Knab
Leidt noch so mancherlei.

Ach Lieb, das schrecket mich allein,
Daß ich nicht fahren kann,
Und wenn dann bräch das Schiffelein,
Müßt ich bald [untergahn]¹.

Ach nein, das soll geschehen nit,
Ich selbst helf rudern dir,
Damit du nur in kurzer Zeit,
Herzliebster kommst zu mir.

Weil du's, schöns Lieb, denn meinst so gut,
Will ich's gleich wagen frei,
Allein das bitt' ich fleißig dich,
Steh mir ohn' Falschheit bei.

Ich weiß [mir'n Mädchen]¹ hübsch und fein, 
  hüt du dich!
Es kann wohl falsch und freundlich sein,

Vertrau ihr nicht, sie narret dich!

Sie hat zwei Äuglein, die sind [braun]²,

Sie werd'n dich überzwerch anschaun,

Sie hat ein licht goldfarbenes Haar,

Es fiel auf die [zarten]¹ Blaublümelein:
Sie sind verwelket, [verdorrt]².

Ein Jüngling hatte ein Mädchen lieb;

Sie haben gehabt weder Glück noch Stern,
