Si tan sols el tingués, si tan sols Ell fos meu, si el meu cor fins a la tomba no oblida mai la seva fidelitat: no coneixeré res de la pena, no sentiré res més que devoció, amor i joia. Si tan sols el tingués, de bon grat ho deixaria tot, amb el meu bastó de caminant seguiria només el meu Senyor amb fidels pensaments; deixaria tranquil•lament els altres caminar per carrers amples, il•luminats i plens de gent. Si tan sols el tingués, m’adormiria joiós, un etern i dolç reconfort seria per a mi el devessall del seu cor, que amb gentil impuls, ablaneix i penetra totes les coses. Si tan sols el tingués, tindria també el món; benaurat, com un infant del cel que sosté el vel de la Verge. Absort en la contemplació, no em farien basarda les coses d’aquest món.
