Ich leb, ich sterb: ich brenn und ich ertrinke,
ich dulde Glut und bin doch wie im Eise;
mein Leben übertreibt die harte Weise
und die verwöhnende und mischt das Linke
 
mir mit dem Rechten, Tränen und Gelächter
Ganz im Vergnügen find ich Stellen Leides,
was ich besitz, geht hin und wird doch ächter:
ich dörr in einem, und ich grüne, beides.
 
So nimmt der Gott mich her und hin. Und wenn
ich manchmal mein', nun wird der Schmerz am größten,
fühl ich mich plötzlich ganz gestillt und leicht.
 
Und glaub ich dann, ein Dasein sei erreicht,
reicht es mich nieder aus dem schon Erlösten
in eine Trübsal, die ich wiederkenn.
