Ty pela, tomima toskoju; iz temnych, zadumčivych glaz katilas' sleza za slezoju... Protjažno i grustno ty pela... Ljubila napev ja prostoj, chot' slov ja ponjat' ne umela... O, spoj že tu pesnju, rodnaja, kak pela eë v starinu; davno eë smysl ponjala ja! I pust' pod znakomye zvuki ubitaja gorem zasnu ja snom, čto vračuet vse muki.
