In zeker dal bij arme herders Verscheen steeds in 't begin van 't jaar, Zodra de leeuweriken sjirpten, Een meisje mooi en wonderbaar. Zij was niet in het dal geboren En niemand wist vanwaar zij kwam, Maar snel ging weer haar spoor verloren, Zodra het meisje afscheid nam. Verademend was haar nabijheid En alle harten werden wijd, Maar 'n zeek're stijl, een zeek're hoogheid Verdreef toch de vertrouw'lijkheid. Zij bracht vaak bloemen mee en vruchten, Gerijpt op een heel ander veld, In ander licht en and're luchten, In betere natuur geteeld; En deeld' aan iedereen een gave, Hier vruchten, daar wat bloemen uit; De jongen en de hoogbejaarde, Eenieder ging verrijkt naar huis.
