Der Zaunpfahl trug ein Hütlein weiß,
Die Sonn' hat's ihm genommen,
Nach Lichtmeß traut kein Fuchs dem Eis,
Der Frühling ist gekommen.

Voll Blüthen steht der Dornenstrauch,
Laut summt es in der Linde,
Und Rosenduft und Aehrenrauch
Ziehn mit dem Abendwinde.

Wird schon im Feld das Korn gemäht,
Darfst du nach Früchten greifen,
Doch was nur selbst, mein Herz, gesät,
Das laß du ruhig reifen. 

Es ist und bleibt doch immerdar
Ein Kommen und ein Wandern
Von einem Jahr zum andern Jahr,
Von einem Tag zum andern.
