Una barqueta navega tranquil·lament per la seva ruta al llarg del riu. A dins, els que hi viatgen, no diuen res, car ningú coneix els altres. Què es treu de la seva pellissa el caçador carabrú? Un corn de caça que toca dolçament i que ressona a la riba. Del seu bastó de passeig un altre descargola pern i mànec, i amb un so de flauta es barreja amb el ressò del corn. La noia que seia tan enfavada, com si li manqués la paraula, ara acorda el seu cant amb el so del corn i la flauta. Els mariners remant també segueixen el compàs. La barca al seu dessota sembla volar bressolada per la melodia. Amb un sotrac, aborda a la riba, a terra, tota les passatgers se separen: “Germans, quan ens tornarem a veure de nou en una barqueta?”
