Ein Vöglein singt so süße
Vor mir von Ort zu Ort;
Weh, meine wunden Füße!
Das Vöglein singt so süße,
Ich wandre immerfort.

Wo ist nun hin das Singen?
Schon sank das Abendrot;
Die Nacht hat es verstecket,
Hat alles zugedecket -
Wem klag ich meine Not?

Kein Sternlein blinkt im Walde,
Weiß weder Weg noch Ort;
Die Blumen an der Halde,
Die Blumen in dem Walde,
Die blühn im Dunkeln fort.

Perdu
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Un petit oiseau chante si doucement
Devant moi, de place en place;
Mes pieds blessés me font mal!
Le petit oiseau chante si doucement,
Et je poursuis toujours mon chemin.

Où est passé maintenant le chant?
Déjà tombent les rougeoiements du soir;
La nuit les a recouverts,
Elle a tout recouvert -
Auprès de qui crier misère?

Aucune petite étoile ne brille dans la forêt
Je ne connais ni le chemin ni l'endroit;
Les fleurs sur la pente,
Les fleurs dans la forêt
Continuent de fleurir dans le noir.
