Et tant le pleur piteus t'a molesté,

 Tu le rendois tout soudein lamentable,
 Feignant le ton que plein auoit chanté.

Et si te veus efforcer au contraire.
 Tu te destens & si me contreins taire :
 Mais me voyant tendrement soupirer,

Donnant faueur à ma tant triste pleinte :
 En mes ennuis me plaire suis contreinte.

Laute, Genossin meiner Kümmernis,
die du ihr beiwohnst innig und bescheiden,
gewissenhafter Zeiger meiner Leiden:
wie oft schon klagtest du mit mir. Ich riß
 
dich so hinein in diesen Gang der Klagen,
drin ich befangen bin, daß, wo ich je
seligen Ton versuchend angeschlagen,
da unterschlugst du ihn und töntest weh.
 
Und will ich dennoch anders dich verwenden,
entspannst du dich und machst mich völlig stumm.
Erst wenn ich wieder stöhne und mich härme,
 
kommst du zu Stimme, und ich fühle Wärme
in deinem Inneren; so sei es drum:
mag sanft als Leiden (was stets Leid war) enden.
