by Charles Baudelaire (1821 - 1867)
Translation by Stefan George (1868 - 1933)

Le vin des amants
Language: French (Français)
Aujourd'hui l'espace est splendide !
Sans mors, sans éperons, sans bride,
Partons à cheval sur le vin
Pour un ciel féerique et divin !

Comme deux anges que torture
Une implacable calenture,
Dans le bleu cristal du matin
Suivons le mirage lointain !

Mollement balancés sur l'aile
Du tourbillon intelligent,
Dans un délire parallèle,

Ma sœur, côte à côte nageant,
Nous fuirons sans repos ni trêves
Vers le Paradis de mes rêves !

Confirmed with Charles Baudelaire, Les Fleurs du mal, Paris: Poulet-Malassis et de Broise, 1857, in Le vin, pages 238-239. Note: this was number 97 in the first edition of Les Fleurs du mal but number 108 or 132 in subsequent editions.

Note: "trêves" (line 4-2) was misspelled in the first edition as "trèves"

Der Wein der Liebenden
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the French (Français)
Available translation(s): ENG ITA
Prächtig ist heute die weite ·
Stränge und sporen beiseite ·
Reiten wir auf dem wein
In den feeenhimmel hinein!

Engel für ewige dauer
Leidend im fieberschauer ·
Durch des morgens blauen kristall
Fort in das leuchtende all!

Wir lehnen uns weich auf den flügel
Des windes der eilt ohne zügel.
Beide voll gleicher lust

Lass schwester uns brust an brust
Fliehn ohne rast und stand
In meiner träume land!

Confirmed with Stefan George, Die Blumen des Bösen, a translation of Charles Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal, Berlin, Bondi, 1901, page 151.
