Ah, se dal fondo di queste valli, che la fredda nebbia opprime, potessi trovare la via d'uscita, ah, come mi sentirei felice! Là scorgo dolci colline, sempre fresche e sempre verdi! avessi ali, potessi spiegarle, verso le colline volerei. Armonie sento risuonare, suoni di pace celestiale, e brezze leggere mi portano il conforto di profumi, vedo splendere frutti dorati, che occhieggiano tra le fronde scure, e i fiori che fioriscono là non sono preda di nessun inverno. Ah, come deve essere bello là, in un'eterna luce del sole, e l'aria su quelle alture, come deve ristorare! Ma mi contrasta il fiume invidioso, che infuriato rumoreggia, le sue onde sono gonfie tanto da far tremare l'anima. Una barchetta vedo ondeggiare, ma - manca il timoniere. Forza, su, senza indugio, le sue vele sono animate. Devi credere, devi osare, ché gli dei non promettono invano, solo un prodigio può portarti in quel meraviglioso paese.
