En una vall fosca jeia somiant fa no gaire, quan vaig veure de nou un raig de llum del meu país. En un prat il·luminat per la tènue llum de l'alba hi havia la casa del meu pare; que blau que era el cel! Els camps, tan plens de prosperitat! Com ple d'or i de resplendor de roses era el meu país! Però aviat el somni s'esvaí, i la pena prengué el seu lloc. Llavors vaig vagarejar lluny, fins a una terra desolada plena d’enyor. Encara erro, buscant la casa, i no la puc trobar ofuscat per les llàgrimes.
