Da hob ich schmerzvoll meine Flöte, die Aus Jade ist, zum Himmel auf und brachte Mein Lied den Göttern dar. Die Götter waren Beglückt und huben auf erglühnden Wolken Nach meinem Lied zu tanzen an . . . Nun singe ich mein Lied den Menschen auch zur Freude; nun verstehen sie mich auch, Spiel' ich das Lied auf meiner Flöte, die aus Jade ist . . .

Ik nam mijn fluit van zuiver jade en zong, Zong voor de menschen diep ontroerd mijn lied. De menschen lachten, zij begrepen 't niet. Daar hief ik smartvol naar den hemel op Mijn fluit van jade en zong mijn eenzaam lied De goden voor. En zie, de goden waren Verblijd en dansten, in doorgloeide wolken, Naar 't rythme van mijn eenzaam lied. Nu zing ik ook mijn lied de menschen voor Tot vreugde en nu begrijpen zij mij ook, Speel ik het lied melodisch op mijn fluit, Die is van jade.
