by Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804 - 1877)
Translation Singable translation by Max Vogel

Den långa dagen
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Our translations:  FRE GER
Förr, när min vän var här,
var mig en vårdag kort;
Nu då han borta är,
är mig en höstdag lång!

"Ack hvad den dagen flyr!"
säga de andra nu -
"Ack hvad den dagen flyr!"

Jag: "hvad den långsam är"
O, att den ville fly!
Kommer ej qvälen snart?
Kommer ej nattens ro?

Der lange Tag
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Swedish (Svenska)
Kurz war ein Frühlingstag
Als noch mein Freund hier war,
Jetzt, wo er ferne weilt,
Wird mir ein Herbsttag lang,
"Ach, wie der Tag verfliegt!"

Sprechen die andern nun,
Ich: "Was er langsam ist,
Möchte er bald vergehn!
Kommt nicht der Abend bald,
Kommt nicht die stille Nacht?"

Confirmed with Ausgewählte Gedichte von Johan Ludvig Runeberg, tr. by Max Vogel, Leipzig: Joh. Ambr. Barth, 1878, page 75. Appears in Lyrische Gediche des zweiten Theils.
