Oh night, oh gentle summer night, you bring to bloom the flowers in the grass and the flowers on the branches, you tell the women's tender hearts to open out, and white forms wander under the blossoming lime-trees! Oh night, oh gentle summer night, you tone down the sobs of the convulsed swells of the seas, you tell the isolated folk not to be bitter, and the peace of your sky descends into their thoughts. Oh night, oh gentle summer night, you speak softly, your feet become light and your voice soporific, so as not to waken the poor who have died, the ones who can no longer love, oh loving night!
