Fallen zitternd goldne Funken
Durch die Nacht, und meine Seele
Dehnt sich liebeweit und weiter.

O ihr Himmelsaugen droben!
Weint euch aus in meine Seele,
Daß von lichten Sternentränen
Überfließet meine Seele.

Hier ein Weilchen! dort ein Weilchen!
Von der Rose bis zum Veilchen
Geht der Schmetterling nach Mäulchen,
Küßt er alle Blumen rings herum.
Leicht läßt jede sich besiegen,
Gern läßt sie ihn weiter fliegen:
Denn der Falter ist verschwiegen
Und zum Glück auch stumm.

Soll dein stolzer Plan gelingen,
Willst du jedes Herz bezwingen:
Ahme nach den Schmetterlingen,
Sei bescheiden und so stumm wie sie!
Laut laß' keinen Sieg dich freuen!
Denn, wisset: Es verzeihen
Mädchen einem Ungetreuen,
Einem Schwätzer nie.

Ich sah es an einem Sonntag
Wohl vor der Türe steh'n:
  Das tausendschöne Jungfräulein,
  Das tausendschöne Herzelein,
  Wollte Gott, wollte Gott, ich wär' heute bei ihr!

So will mir doch die ganze Woche
Das Lachen nicht vergeh'n, 
Ich sah es an einem Sonntag
 Wohl in die Kirche geh'n: 
  Das tausendschöne Jungfräulein,
  Das tausendschöne Herzelein,

Und eine Wundermäre
Erzählt der rote Mund,
Es jubelt unvergessen
Im tiefsten Seelengrund.
