Mach auf, mach auf, doch leise mein Kind,
Um keinen vom Schlummer zu wecken.
Kaum murmelt der Bach, kaum zittert im Wind
Ein Blatt an den Büschen und Hecken.
Drum leise, mein Mädchen, daß [nichts sich]1 regt,
Nur leise die Hand auf die Klinke gelegt.

Mit Tritten, wie Tritte der Elfen so sacht,
[Die über die Blumen]2 hüpfen,
Flieg leicht hinaus in die Mondscheinnacht,
[Zu]3 mir in den Garten zu schlüpfen.
Rings schlummern die Blüten am rieselnden Bach 
Und duften im Schlaf, nur die Liebe ist wach.

Serenade

Kom mee, kom mee, maar zachtjes, mijn kind,
Om niemand daar wakker te maken.
De beek stroomt heel stil, haast trilt in de wind
Geen blad, en geen tak hoor je kraken.
Dus zachtjes, mijn meisje, dat niets zich roert,
Neem zachtjes de deur die naar buiten toe voert.
 
Met stapjes, als stapjes van elfen zo zacht,
[Die over de bloemen]1 wippen,
Ren zacht hierheen in de maneschijnnacht,
Naar mij in de tuin kom vlug glippen.
Hier sluim’ren de bloesems, de beek hier ruist zacht,
Het geurt en het slaapt, maar de liefde, zij wacht.
 
Kom zitten, in scheem’rige lichtinval
Onder de lindenbomen,
De nachtegaal net hierboven zal 
Van onze kussen dromen.
En de roos zal, wanneer de morgen weer lacht,
Gloeien van de zaal’ge roes in de nacht.
