'k Verzeker u, hier naast mij woont Een alleraardigst meisje! Zodra de dag mijn werkplaats toont, Kijk 'k naar haar kooppaleisje. Tot ring en ketting ik forceer Elk fijn, blank gouden draadje. Ach, denk ik dan, wanneer, wanneer Is zulk een ring voor Kaatje? En klapt zij net de luiken om, Dan komt het ganse stadje En biedt en dingt in dichte drom In 't zaakje van het schatje. Ik vijl, maar wel vervijl ik dan Ook menig gouden draadje. De meester bromt, die strenge man! Hij merkt, het komt door Kaatje. En fluks - ligt soms haar handel stil, - Meteen grijpt zij naar 't raadje. Ik weet wel, wat zij spinnen wil: zij hóópt, het lieve maatje.
