Im Leuchtturm wurden die Lichter Allmählich angesteckt, Und in der weiten Ferne Ward noch ein Schiff entdeckt. Wir sprachen von Sturm und Schiffbruch, Vom Seemann, und wie er lebt, Und zwischen Himmel und Wasser, Und Angst und Freude schwebt. Sèiem a la casa del pescador i miràvem el mar; vingué la boirina del capvespre i s’enlairà cap al cel. Al far, les llums s’encengueren poc a poc, i a la llunyania es podia veure encara un vaixell. Parlàvem de tempestes i naufragis, de com viu el mariner, de com està suspès entre cel i aigua, entre el temor i la joia. Parlàvem de ribes llunyanes, del sud i del nord, i de l’estranya gent d’allà i de llurs insòlits costums. A les ribes del Ganges flaireja i resplendeix i hi floreixen arbres gegants, i homes bells i tranquils s’agenollen davant les flors del lotus. A Lapònia, la gent és bruta, amb el cap aplatat, de morros amples, petits; s’arrauleixen al voltant del foc i fan coure el peix, i braolen i criden.
