Herbstgefühl
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Fetter grüne, du Laub,
Am Rebengeländer
Hier [mein Fenster herauf!]1
Gedrängter quellet,
Zwillingsbeeren, und reifet
Schneller und glänzend [voller]2!
Euch brütet der Mutter Sonne
Scheideblick, euch umsäuselt
Des holden Himmels
Fruchtende Fülle;
Euch kühlet des Mondes
Freundlicher Zauberhauch,
Und euch betauen, ach!
Aus diesen Augen
Der ewig belebenden Liebe
Voll schwellende Tränen.

Autumn emotion
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
 Grow more richly green, O leaves
 upon the vine-trellis -
 grow here up to my window!
 Swell more densely,
 twin berries, and ripen
 more quickly to gleam more fully!
 Over you broods mother sun's
 farewell glance, and about you whisper
 the lovely sky's
 fruitful cornucopia;
 upon you the moon breathes
 a kindly, cooling, magical breath,
 and ah! you are bedewed
 by these eyes
 that bestow eternal, life-giving love,
 full and swelling with tears.
