Mit eitel Wasser füllen?
Und schöpfst du an die tausend Jahr;
Und küßest ewig, ewig gar,
Du tust ihr nie zu Willen.

Die Lieb', die Lieb' hat alle Stund'
Neu wunderlich Gelüsten;
Wir bißen uns die Lippen wund,
Da wir uns heute küßten.
Das Mädchen hielt in guter Ruh',
Wie's Lämmlein unter'm Messer;
Ihr Auge bat: nur immer zu,
Je weher, desto beßer!

So ist die Lieb', und war auch so,
Wie lang es Liebe giebt, 
Und anders war Herr Salomo,
Der Weise, nicht verliebt.

Così è l’amore! Così è l’amore!
non si può placare coi baci:
chi è lo stolto che un crivello
vorrebbe riempire di vacua acqua?
E se tu l’attingessi anche per mille anni,
o se baciassi sempre, e sempre ancora, 
non gli basterebbe mai.

L’amore, l’amore ha ad ogni ora
nuovi desideri meravigliosi;
ci mordevamo le labbra fino a ferirci 
quest’oggi, nel baciarci.
La ragazza se ne stava quieta e buona
come un agnello sotto la lama;
i suoi occhi chiedevano: solo sempre di più,
quanto peggio, tanto meglio!

Così è l’amore, e sempre fu così,
da quando amore esiste,
e d’altronde il re Salomone,
il Saggio, non fu innamorato.
