Doch meine Seele bei dir, 
So schreit' ich, ein Lebend-Todter, 
Fort durch der Welt Gewirr. 

Nachtwandler bin ich geworden, 
Der suchend die Augen schließt: 
Zum Leben kehr' ich erst wieder, 
Wenn du mich wach geküßt.

Käm' der liebe Wohlbekannte,
Völlig so wie er geschieden:
Kuß erkläng' an seinen Lippen,
Hätt' auch Wolfsblut sie gerötet;
Ihm den Handschlag gäb' ich, wären
Seine Fingerspitzen Schlangen.

Wind! o hättest du Verständnis,
Wort' um Worte trügst du wechselnd,
Sollt auch einiges verhallen,
Zwischen zwei entfernten Liebchen.

Gern entbehrt' ich gute Bissen,
Priesters Tafelfleisch vergäß' ich
Eher, als dem Freund entsagen,
Den ich Sommers rasch bezwungen,
Winters langer Weis' bezähmte.

Bitterlich weinte das Mädchen, sie schalt ohne Treu' den Geliebten.
An ihre Schulter gelehnt, plötzlich, sieh da, schlief er ein.
Plötzlich schwieg auch das Mädchen, leis' seinen Schlummer bewachend,
blickte mit Lächeln auf ihn, leis' fiel die Träne herab.

Ach, wenn's nur der König auch wüßt',
Wie wacker mein Schätzelein ist!
Für den König, da ließ' er sein Blut,
Für mich aber ebensogut.

Mein Schatz hat kein Band und kein' Stern,
Kein Kreuz wie die vornehmen Herrn,
Mein Schatz wird auch kein General;
Hätt' er nur seinen Abschied einmal!

Es scheinen drei Sterne so hell
Dort über Marien-Kapell;
Da knüpft uns ein rosenrot' Band,
Und ein Hauskreuz ist auch bei der Hand.

Ich möcht' ein Lied ersinnen,
Das diesem Abend gleich;
Und kann den Klang nicht finden
So dunkel, mild und weich.
