La tomba és profunda i silenciosa i esborronadors són els seus voltants. Amb un negre embolcall cobreix una terra incògnita. La cançó del rossinyol no ressona al seu interior. Les roses de l’amistat cauen tan sols damunt la molsa del tossal. Les núvies abandonades malden debades amb les mans espellades; els planys de l’orfe no penetren dins la terra profunda. Però en cap altre lloc regna l’anhelat repòs; només travessant l’ombrívola porta hom arriba a la darrera estança. El pobre cor, aquí a la terra, sacsejat per moltes tempestes, trobarà la pau veritable tan sols quan ja no bategarà més.
