És tan dolç de divertir-se
amb cançons i amb els cors
i amb lluites serioses.
Quan brilla la claror de la lluna,
m’atrau a fora de la cambra,
lluny, a través de places i carrers;
allà estic sempre disposat
tant per a l’amor com per al combat.

Les belles de Sevilla
amb ventalls i “mantillas”
esguarden al llarg del riu;
escolten amb plaer
quan sonen els meus cants
acompanyats de la mandolina.
I roses vermelles cauen
dels balcons per donar-me gràcies.

Quan canto, porto amb mi
la cítara i una espasa
d’acer de Toledo.
Canto davant moltes reixes
i faig burla de molts cavallers,
sobretot amb cançons agosarades,
la cítara s’adreça a les dames
i l’espasa als rivals.

Vinga doncs, a l’aventura!
Ja s’apaga el foc del sol
darrere les muntanyes.
Les hores de penombra de les nits de lluna
porten noves d’amor,
porten lluites sagnants
i al matí quan torno a casa,
