Der Knabe

Ich möchte einer werden so wie die, 
die durch die Nacht mit wilden Pferden fahren, 
mit Fackeln, die gleich aufgegangnen Haaren 
in ihres Jagens großem Winde wehn. 
Vorn möcht ich stehen wie in einem Kahne, 
groß und wie eine Fahne aufgerollt. 
Dunkel, aber mit einem Helm von Gold, 
der unruhig glänzt. Und hinter mir gereiht 
zehn Männer aus derselben Dunkelheit 
mit Helmen, die, wie meiner, unstät sind, 
bald klar wie Glas, bald dunkel, alt und blind. 
Und einer steht bei mir und bläst uns Raum 
mit der Trompete, welche blitzt und schreit, 
und bläst uns eine schwarze Einsamkeit, 
durch die wir rasen wie ein rascher Traum: 
Die Häuser fallen hinter uns ins Knie, 
die Gassen biegen sich uns schief entgegen, 
die Plätze weichen aus: wir fassen sie, 
und unsre Rosse rauschen wie ein Regen.

Le garçon

Je voudrais devenir quelqu'un comme ceux
qui dans la nuit voyagent avec des chevaux sauvages,
avec des flambeaux qui pareils à des cheveux défaits
flottent dans le grand vent de leur course.
Je voudrais me tenir devant, comme dans une barque,
grand et comme un drapeau déroulé.
Ténébreux, mais avec un casque d'or
qui sans cesse resplendit. Et derrière moi, alignés,
dix hommes des mêmes ténèbres
avec des casques, comme le mien agités,
tantôt clairs comme le verre, tantôt sombres, vieux et aveugles.
Et près de moi s'en tient un, qui nous souffle de l'espace
avec sa trompette qui étincelle et hurle,
et il nous souffle une noire solitude
dans laquelle nous courons comme un rêve rapide :
Les maisons derrière nous tombent à genoux,
face à nous les rues de travers se courbent,
les places s'esquivent : nous les prenons
et nos chevaux foncent comme la pluie.
