We sat together beside the sleeping river. With soft singing, the fishermen had drifted homeward. The sun burned golden beyond the river, And at that time I said nothing to you. Thunder rumbled in the distance...A storm was building. A tear appeared on your eyelashes. I sank towards you sobbing madly, And you did not say anything. And now today, I am alone again, as before. I expect nothing from future years. In my heart the sounds of life have long since been echoing away. Oh why did I not say anything?!

The dim light of the candle flickers, Depressing gloom creeps all around, And longing grips the chest With incomprehensible power. On my sad eyes Quietly sleep descends, And at that moment, my heart Converses with the past. My spirit is exhausted With deeper anguish. Appear then, my distant friend, If only in a dream!

On this moonlit night, on this wondrous night, At this rapturous moment of meeting, Oh, my friend, I can't overcome the feeling of love, I cannot contain my confession! Gently trembles the silvery surface of the lake, Leaning willows are whispering quietly... But words are powerless! How to convey to you All the impulses of my weary heart? The night doesn't linger and flies by... The moon has set... The distance has turned mysteriously scarlet... My dear, farewell! Again the tides of life Bring to us another day of sorrow and sadness!

The sun has set, the flickering colours Have lightly gilded the azure skies, Charmed by the languorous caresses of the night The slumbering forest is whispering gently... Now within my troubled soul my worries fall silent And I can breathe freely with a full chest tonight... The shadows and sounds of this marvellous night Carry us far away together, my friend. Embraced by the languor of this passionate night, You have reclined upon my shoulder with your head... I am deliriously happy, oh, my beautiful friend, Endlessly happy on this night with you.

Amid gloomy days and under the weight of troubles, From the misty haze of years past, Like a spark from some joyous ray of light Your eyes shine upon me. Under the spell of lucid dreams I imagine That I'm together with you again, By the light of day and in the silence of night, Sharing with you the elation of my soul. I am with you again! -- my sorrow Has fled into the murky distance... And fervently I want to live again -- To breathe you, to love you!

I am alone again, as before, And again unbearable anguish oppresses my heart. The poplar is looking at my window Illumined by the Moon The poplar is looking at my window, The leaves are whispering about something, The sky is full of shining stars, Darling, where are you now? I am not able to tell everything, What's going on with me. My friend, please, pray the God for me, Since I am already praying for you.
