Es spricht das Grab zu der Rose: „Was machst du mit all den Tränen, die tau'n auf dich sanft herab?“ Da spricht zum Grabe die Rose: „Was machst du mit all den Tränen, die der Kummer dir sendet hinab?“ Die Rose spricht: „Ich hauche Düfte mit den Tränen durch die Lüfte Rein und mild. Bin dann stiller Lieb' sanft verklärtes Bild.“ Dann spricht das Grab: „O stolze Rose! es entsteiget meinem Schoße sanft und mild für jede Träne ein holdes Engelsbild!“
