Ein Seufzer lief Schlittschuh auf nächtlichem Eis und träumte von Liebe und Freude. Es war an dem Stadtwall und Schneeweiß glänzten die Stadtwallgebäude Der Seufzer dacht' an ein Maidelein und blieb erglühend stehen. Da schmolz die Eisbahn unter ihm -- und er sank -- und ward nimmer gesehen!

Un soupir patinait la nuit sur la glace et rêvait d'amour et de joie. C'était aux murs de la ville, et blanches comme neige, les bâtisses de la ville brillaient. Le soupir pensa à une jolie fille et resta planté là comme englué. Alors sous lui la patinoire fondit -- et il coula -- et on ne le revit plus jamais.
