Wer nie sein Brod mit Thränen aß
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT DUT ENG ENG FRE HUN ITA
Wer nie sein Brod mit Thränen aß,
Wer nie die kummervollen Nächte
Auf seinem [Bette]1 weinend saß,
Der kennt euch nicht, ihr himmlischen Mächte!

Ihr führt ins Leben uns hinein,
Ihr laßt den Armen schuldig werden,
Dann überlaßt ihr ihn der Pein:
Denn alle Schuld rächt sich auf Erden.

Harfeník
Language: Czech (Čeština)  after the German (Deutsch)
Kdo sousta svého v slzách nepožil,
kdo nikdy ještě v strastiplné noci
slz hořkých na svém loži neprolil,
ten nezná vás, vy nadpozemské moci.

Vy stavíte nás ve života hluk,
a na chuďasa dopouštíte vinu,
pak necháte jej tíží jeho muk
a mstě, jež kráčí v patách jeho činu!

Confirmed with Goetheho vybrané básně, translated by Jan Nečas, Praha: nákladem knihkupectví I. L. Kobra, 1889, page 30.
