Kom, troost der wereld, stille nacht! Hoe daal je van de bergen zacht, Geen winden nu nog draven. Een schipper slechts nog, zwervensmoe, Zingt over 't water Gode toe; Zijn lied zwerft door de haven. De jaren, als de wolken, gaan En laten mij hier eenzaam staan, Door iedereen vergeten. Jij kwam tot mij -- hoe vreemd bestier! - Toen ik in 't ruisend bos alhier Nadenkend was gezeten. O troost der wereld, stille nacht! De dag heeft uitgeput mijn kracht, De wijde zee, zij donkert, Ontlast mij nu van lust en nood, Totdat het eeuw'ge morgenrood Het stille bos doorflonkert.
