als welkten in den Himmeln ferne Gärten; 
sie fallen mit verneinender Gebärde. 
Und in den Nächten fällt die schwere Erde 
aus allen Sternen in die Einsamkeit. 
Wir alle fallen. Diese Hand da fällt. 
Und sieh die andre an: es ist in allen. 
Und doch ist einer, welcher dieses Fallen 
unendlich sanft in seinen Händen hält.

Les feuilles tombent, tombent comme si au loin
se fanaient dans le ciel de lointains jardins ;
elles tombent avec des gestes qui se refusent.
Et dans les nuits la lourde terre tombe
de toutes les étoiles, dans la solitude.
Nous tombons tous. Cette main tombe.
Et vois, cette chute est dans toutes les autres mains
Et pourtant il en est un qui retient dans sa main,
cette chute délicatement, éternellement.
